10th day post transplant

Good nights sleep last night. I think the worst of the effects of the chemo on zero-1 must be wearing off. Mostly. So it's a rather boring waiting game from here on in.
What I miss most at the moment, is the outside world. Here I mean 'things wot grow'. I'm constantly asking my family for details of such and such a plant, and what is it doing. A colleague sent a brief rundown of how our fields are at the moment. It was excellent; I was able to imagine my way round for at least half an hour. I've been glued to the RHS Chelsea flower show. I suppose I've spent my working life involved with the 'outside' so it must be second nature. Even though I seem to spend 80% of my time behind a desk these days, there's no substitute for pulling on your wellies.
No other news I'm afraid, although I believe the Cambridge beer festival is on at the moment.

Charlie, we do miss you in the fields! The wheat is in ear now - drilling date trials (early and mid) showing emergence - with the expected differences in varieties. Gallant is looking good (as is Duxford, Ketchum and Kingdom in fact!). We are seeing YR on Viscount - which is pleasing some!! You will be back out with us before you know it! I'm just putting together provisional trials plans for next year - so you will have plenty to do!! We'll play tag - I'll go and you will come back!! Glad you are feeling a bit better!

Charlie, glad you are not feeling as sick today and got a good sleep last night. My dads in Addenbrookes at the mo - was still in recovery yesterday but will be moved to the back of D7 (IDA unit or something...). Finally got the exchange on the new house!! Had a bit of a mad moment in the office and layed on the floor for a while after the news. Poor Sean got the brunt of my celebrations...he's not been right since!! Just waiting for confirmation of move date now...... Ryan's word of the moment is "sweet". Told him last night grandad was ok and all I got was "sweet". Just checking he is still only 5 years old and not turned into "Kevin" the teenager... Speak to you soon. Trace xx

Also, would it be polite to ask what growth stage the Quench and Publican are at?

Charles,
Glad to hear you had a good sleep. Yes, let's hope the worst of the effects are over. Went golfing today with my brother. I won't give you my golf score because I stopped keeping track after the 12 hole. It is a holiday weekend over here, most businesses and schools are closed on Monday for Memorial Day. I didn't know you were a garden person. I built one in my tiny backyard. I will email or send a picture to Jeanette. You can then give me some pointers on my mistakes.
Hang Tough,
Gerry

Hi Charles

Fingers crossed for tomorrow's neutrophil count.
Daisy hopes you liked her little picture - it was done in the blink of an eye so if the letters are not quite standard alphabet then she would respectfully request you focus on how pretty the flower is.
My garden is growing well. The grass is at least a foot high.

Have a good night

Glad your feeling better though sounds difficult being cooped up with no fresh air or contact with the real world.
Have little interesting growing news apart from....the grass is in need of cutting but its been raining again! We have some lovely new pots on the patio thanks to Graham who has spent the last couple of weeks driving down to Wiltshire collecting large pots and transporting them to Rasen. One of the favourites is a Dark Red Japenese Maple (Acer). The others are (after consultation with Graham) Fatsia Japonica, Heucherella (Burnished Bronze), Astilbe (Bressingham Beauty), a huge pot of ferns (originally from savernak forest apparently - but not supposed to tell anyone!), a couple of fuschias, climbing hydrangea, honeysuckle, and a few others! And we have 2 empty pots so any ideas for a patio area in a shady north facing garden would be really welcome.
Hoping things remain settled and you have another good sleep.

Hi Charles,

Glad you had a better night and let's hope the worst is behind you now.

Well, while you're lying there relaxing it would appear that the rest of Brookfield Road are out mowing their lawns. I know where you would rather be but make the most of the rest while you can as the grass will always need cutting and the weeds will always be there.

Ron's first visit to the Cambridge Beer Festival didn't happen last night. Apparently the queue was a mile long and so the plan changed to a game of football on the green and a few "tinnies" with the boys. At least he did manage to get home in one piece albeit stinking like a brewery and less savoury the other end. Needless to say he slept like a baby, taking over most of the bed, twitching like a dog with fleas and snoring like a walrus. I think I got to sleep around 3am.

I hope we manage to kidnap Jeanette for an hour or two tonight. Will call shortly to see if she is up for it.

Hope you get another good night's sleep.

Love Helen & Ron xx

I can confirm that the grass at 24 has been mowed, huzzah!
lettuce - doing ok
cucumber - bit wilty
carrots - going beserk. rabbit has sinister glint in eye.
tomatoes - could use some water this month
basil - if the chickens stopped scratching up the effing seedlings every time they get free for five minutes, it would help.
pomagranate - blooming
lemon - dead from frost 2 months ago
strawberries - flowering but attracting many slugs
mint - very hard to grow, a finickety plant, can't quite get the hang of it.
fig tree - covered in figs, quite excited
architectural plants in pots out the front of our house which you can't neglect enough to harm them - harmed from neglect.

Hope the neutrophils are rampant.

Love
